Holika Dahan

by Megha Budhia

On the eve of Holika Dahan, the triumph of good over evil is commemorated. On this day, people build a bonfire to celebrate Bhakt Prahlad's trust in Lord Vishnu triumphing over his father Hiranyakashipu and his aunt Holika's wicked intentions. His father and aunt attempted to kill him by lighting him on fire, according to legend, but his trust in Lord Vishnu saved him. It's also believable.
