Chhath

by Megha Budhia

Chhath is an ancient Hindu Vedic celebration dedicated to the solar deity Surya and Shashthi Devi, who are thanked for imparting life on the planet.

Surprisingly, the holiday does not entail idolatry. His wives Usha and Pratyusha are thought to be the main sources of the sun's strength. As a result, Chhath entails the worship of both forces as well as the Sun.
