Basant Panchami

Basant Panchami marks the change of seasons from winter to spring and finally summer. On this day, people honour Maa Saraswati, the Hindu Goddess of Learning and the Arts. Students, intellectuals, and poets sing mantras and give an offering to the goddess in order for her to bestow wisdom on them. On Basant Panchami, people in several parts of North India sail kites. Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, begins on this day.
